About six months ago, my wife and I bought a 2013 Toyota Prius Hybrid from Millennium Auto Court, Hamilton. We are very happy indeed with the car and with the service provided by Millennium. All their cars are AA-inspected, and of very good quality.
The car itself is very comfortable to drive and to ride in, good height and leg room. The transmission is automatic and the gear controls are park, reverse (with beeping audible only in the car, and reversing camera), drive, and brake.
The car has three mode settings, eco, which is the default and engages both the electric motor and the petrol engine as the car itself determines, ev, which runs the car just on the battery, and power, which engages the petrol engine only. We have used only the eco setting and find it fine for all situations we have encountered. This setting has the advantage of encouraging us to drive in such a way as to conserve petrol as much as we can. Our motoring over the last six months has been mostly round town, but includes long trips e.g. to Auckland. Over this period our petrol consumption averaged at better than five litres to one hundred kilometres, and on some individual trips was much better still.
Being a direct Japanese import, the car had Japanese display text and Japanese maps in the navigation app. Millennium were able to replace this with NZ maps and English language displays for cost. This compares extremely favourably with the quote we obtained for the same service from the Toyota agent.
We can heartily recommend the Prius as a good, economical middle-sized car accommodating four people comfortably, with good luggage space.
